York Museum Gardens inspiration for my project at York School of Art.

A place to begin with clay.

The gardens are packed with two thousand years of history.

Exploring the textures in the gardens abbey ruins. As a place to begin the artwork. I have made these textured pieces in clay.

    Looking at the Wildlife

Models of birds from drawing made on garden visits.

The gardens are a haven for city wildlife. The birds can be moved to test how each position looks for a final sculpture.

    York School of Art.

    Experimenting with Metal forms.

A sculpture further exploring the idea of the birds.

This test piece is high fired white stoneware. The intention was to reflect the interaction of the birds. Keeping the forms simple and defined.

A place to escape from the city. A place to sit and think

The form is inspired by my tree drawing from Museum Gardens. The trees were added by Victorian plant hunters. Many unusual varieties from all around the world.

Drying the piece ready for the first firing.

Fortunately I was able to get the local bird expert to look over the work.

The first birds sculpture, fired and finished.

The sculpture finished and out in the sunshine.

    A Chance Meeting

The gardens are a place where people and nature have come together for over a thousand years. I hope I have captured a moment of interaction in.... A Chance Meeting.
